The Asus P750 is a great PDA. As supplied, it has QVGA resolution, but it actually uses a VGA screen.
Some clever guys in Russia have managed to produce a hacked ROM that allows you to use the VGA screen at its full resolution. I’ve tried this ROM myself, and it does work. However, the one problem with it is that it suffers from a memory leak, so the ROM isn’t quite ready for the big time yet.
If you want to try it yourself, here’s how to upgrade the ROM.
Disclaimer: do this at your own risk. It is very easy to ‘brick’ your PDA, so don’t try this if you’re not prepared to take the risk of destroying your PDA. I don’t take any responsibility for it.
OK, here goes:
Get a micro-SD card. It must be SD, not SD-HC, so anything up to 2GB should be fine.
Copy the ROM .nb0 file to the card, and insert it into the PDA.
Push and hold the following buttons simultaneously:
- Record (on the left hand side)
- Joystick down
- Power slider up
Now hit the reset button while still holding all the buttons. (Yes, it is tricky. The best way to do it is to hold the buttons with your fingers, and grasp the stylus in your teeth to push the reset button.)
This screen will appear:
Insert your power cable or your USB charging cable.
The Rom upgrade will now proceed, and you will see this screen:
When the ROM upgrade is complete, the PDA will reboot and you will have a shiny new VGA P750!
